“How to Take the Stress Out of
Traveling with Children:
What Smart Parents
Want to Know”

Dear Caring Parent,

It's one of those universal laws of life: the more children you have, the more stressful travel seems to become. Children grow bored and restless, little legs get cramped – and then there’s the squabbling in the back seat we’d all like to pretend just didn’t exist!

Add on to that the stress of traveling in ways that may not be the everyday means of travel for your family – such as when you’re anticipating flying with children for the first time – or going on trips you know will be longer than everyone is used to… and anxiety can increase even more. (Not just for you: For your children too!)

But even the best, most aware parents become resigned to traveling with children being just another stressful fact of life.

Let's break down the assumption that family travel has to be stressful into a few simple areas, and quickly re-examine this idea…

Did you know that Squabbling and Fighting
are Actually Signs of Anxiety?

Parents who travel a great deal have learned, there are many precautions you can take – as well as vital preparations you may not have thought of – to ensure your children’s safety and enjoyment in travel situations.

No matter how careful you are to socialize your children, each new experience brings with it some degree of stress. Everyone, from the smallest toddler to the wisest adult, has their own expectations, as well as (sometimes) fears.

Especially small children.

Teenagers, on the other hand, become easily bored.

Older children often manifest a host of physical symptoms, triggered by anticipation or excitement – whether the cause is negative or positive.

And there are all those tiny but vital aspects of travel that you may not have thought about – especially if you’re going abroad, flying for the first time, or traveling with your newborn baby. (Things such as... how can you help your baby deal with airline cabin pressure, when he’s far too young to “chew gum”.)

There’s More Than Just Boredom at Stake,
When you’re Traveling with Children

Some of the factors you need to consider are far more vital than just keeping your children entertained (and yourself from getting a headache!)

These factors include issues such as:

  • Your children’s physical safety
  • Keeping them secure in unfamiliar situations, countries and vehicles
  • Keeping them fed and avoiding dehydration
  • Providing for medical first aid and care – before an accident ever has a chance to happen
  • Planning and packing efficiently to avoid typical “oh no – we didn’t bring it!” disasters
  • Being aware of conditions in developing countries (if that’s where you and your family are heading)
  • Obtaining and carrying correct documentation (especially crucial, with changes to laws in recent years)
  • Safety precautions for different types of vehicles – planes, trains, buses and automobiles

(Did you know the number one cause of injuries on planes involves children hanging over the edge of aisle seats?)

“But we’re just going to My Parents for the Holidays…”

Shorter domestic trips too carry their own special worries and considerations. And these are not strictly limited to traveling.

Holidays away from home can involve situations such as:

  • High levels of excitement and over-stimulation in children – combined with the loss of stability the absence of their everyday structure can bring
  • Conflicts with extended family
  • Anxiety over older parents or family members
  • Dysfunctional communication patterns – and not wanting ourselves (or our children) subjected to them (or sucked back into these destructive and exhausting cycles

It’s true you and your children cannot control other people’s behavior – but you are not doomed to always suffer these sorts of stressors. There are things you can do to improve every visit!

Combining Practical Travel Considerations with Family Dynamics
Is an Art You can Easily Master

My name is Ellen C. Braun, and most of you will know me from my interactive website, Raising Small Souls, which has garnered 61,000+ subscribers since its official opening in April 2006 or you may know me from the “Animal School” movies and books - an overwhelming hit with both educators and parents.

As the mother of three active children, family traveling is naturally something I’ve had my own experiences with too! So I’ve put together a package for you that covers every aspect of travel and the dynamics of being away for the holidays. These are techniques that have worked for me – and other proactive parents.

This easy-to-read, easy-to-listen-to package will help you put stressful family trips where they belong – firmly in the past.

Here's what you can expect from the book...

Traveling with Children shows you:

  • How to help your children enjoy new experiences, feeling happy and involved
  • 5 ways to keep your children entertained and calm, if you get caught in one of those long travel delays
  • 18 "must-have" items to cover almost every situation
  • A word about Special Needs children – who have unique requirements of their own
  • 7 tried-and-true suggestions for creating a successful travel Play Kit - and keeping tired or bored children amused all day
  • How to avoid being denied entry at the border – because you didn’t know about this one important piece of paper
  • Avoiding frightening and tragically unnecessary injuries, when traveling by plane

Let me give you just one example of the sort of tips I’m talking about…

Always caution your children never, ever to open your Hotel room door – even if you’re in the room. Such an innocent mistake – with, sometimes, tragic consequences! (Families have been robbed this way – and children abducted – in certain countries… even in parts of the U.S.A.!)

But you’ll be glad to know, my booklet is not all just precautions. It’s a positive, easy read, packed with suggestions and tips for travel (and all the “extras” we often forget till it’s too late!)

Here’s what you can expect from the Audio Interview…

In your resource audio file, enjoy my in-depth interview with Dyan Eybergen, described by the Speakers’ Bureau of Alberta © Inc. as a “passionate and dynamic speaker” who “easily engages her audience with confidence and humour”.

"…a powerful, focused audio interview with expert Dyan Eybergen, BA, RN, CPMHN(C)…

To make this package really complete, in addition to my eBook, Traveling with Children, I’m also bringing you a powerful, focused audio interview with expert Dyan Eybergen, BA, RN, CPMHN(C), author of Out of the Mouths of Babes – so we can cover every aspect of travel (including just being away from home).

Dyan is passionate about helping people create healthy, positive family dynamics, and in this focused look at preparing for the Holidays with your children, she engages topics usually brushed under the rug, such as:

  • What to do when you or your children find yourself actually dreading visits with extended family
  • Dealing with difficult personalities – and how to make sure your children are not negatively impacted by tension
  • Family communication dynamics – and the reason for added stress at this time
  • Types of situations that arise: What causes them, and how to avoid them
  • Getting surprised by powerful childhood memories, not all of them positive
  • Coping with those who mourn, who may be experiencing Christmas without a loved one

You’ve probably already realized that some of the situations I’ve just described are ones you thought you and your family would always be stuck with – ones that could never change. Not so – and Dyan and I show you how and why.

And there is, of course, some travel or holiday situations you don’t even realize are going to be a problem – until it’s too late, and you’re already “stuck” in them! Traveling with Children will show you how to head many of these situations off before they occur – and how to successfully handle them, if they do.
